It was the "perfect response" according to PDL head coach Stu Riddle after he saw his side concede their first goals of the season in the 3-0 loss to the Chicago Fire Premier on Friday night. "We knew Friday was an off night but we also made sure the players were aware of the importance of putting things right against the Invaders. Everyone stood up to be counted and we got an excellent team performance".
Former Sheffield Wednesday player Scott Ellis opened the scoring for the Outrage in the 27th minute slotting into an empty net from 4 yards after David Reed had headed Mark Briggs free kick off the Invaders post.
The Outrage would have to wait until the 64th minute to score again this time through influential midfielder Mahamadou Simpara who rose to head home a curling Briggs free kick.
Dan Bulley scored his second goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute after lively substitute Tom Oatley was upended in the penalty box when through on goal and Briggs finished the scoring off with a 25 yard screamer in the 89th minute after playing a neat one-two with Chase Corricelli.
With the victory the Outrage climb to 2nd place in the Midwest Division of the Central Conference just 1 point behind leaders Chicago Fire Premier. The Outrage also got their third shut out in just 4 regular season games this season, a record Riddle was proud of "Successful teams are built around strong defensive units and other than our one blemish against the Fire no one has looked like breaking us down".
The Outrage will now travel to Charleston, West Virginia to play the West Virginia Chaos on Friday May 30th at 7pm and will face the Cleveland Internationals in Cleveland on Sunday June 1st at 7pm. June 6th will be the next time Outrage fans can see their team at home with the Indiana Invaders coming to town for the 7pm kick off.
