US Players overseas update - 8/19

(August 19, 2002) - The first meeting of goalkeeper Brad Friedel and Claudio Reyna in the English Premier League ended in a 0-0 stalemate, as Friedel was forced to make a couple big saves off the foot of Reyna to preserve the shutout.

Goalkeeper Kasey Keller began the season as the first choice keeper for Spurs, earning a 2-2 draw away to Everton.

In England’s Second Division, midfielder John Thorrington has appeared in all three games this season, helping Huddersfield Town to a 1-0 win over Peterborough this weekend and scoring in a 2-1 loss to Plymouth last week.

In Germany, defender Tony Sanneh and FC Nurnberg remain without a point to start the new Bundesliga campaign, the result of 0-2 loss to Hansa Rostock. Defender Steve Cherundolo has suffered similiar forturnes with Hannover 96, the newly promoted side also falling to 0-2 on the season with a 1-3 loss to 1860 Munich.

The Dutch Erevisie kicked off this weekend, with defending champions Ajax cruising to a 3-1 victory against FC Utrecht and John O'Brien resuming his starting role at left back.
