CHICAGO, Ill. (June 19, 2002) -- After numerous appearances on the three
major network morning shows and in the nation's top sports magazines
over the past month, members of the U.S. Men's National Team will make
their first appearances on the late-night talk show circuit this week.
The team will make its debut tonight on the "Tonight Show with Jay
Leno", which airs at 11:35 p.m. ET/10:35 p.m. CT/11:30 p.m. PT. A group
of four players -- Landon Donovan, Cobi Jones, Clint Mathis and Joe-Max
Moore -- will be doing a live interview with the host immediately
after his monologue, answering questions both serious and comical about
the World Cup and the team's recent success.
The team will also appear tomorrow night (Thursday) on the "Late Show
with David Letterman", which is also broadcast at 11:35 p.m. ET/10:35
p.m. CT/11:30 p.m. PT. A group of 10 U.S. players will help Dave read a
World Cup-themed Top 10 list about 20-25 minutes into the show.
Having beaten bitter rival Mexico 2-0 on Monday to advance to the 2002
World Cup quarterfinals for the first time since 1930, the U.S. is less
than two days away from a tough match-up with three-time World Cup champ
Germany with a first ever trip to the semifinals on the line. The
historic match will be broadcast live on ESPN and Univision in Friday
morning, with coverage beginning on both networks at 7 a.m. ET/6 p.m.
CT/4 a.m. PT.
